JOYCE M. SHORT
Sexual assault is a defiling crime in desperate need of a solution. It can happen to anyone… rich and famous, or indigent, republican or democrat, vulnerable or sophisticated, male or female, young or old! It happened to me.
In fact, I survived three distinct types of sexual assault – all three covered by Model Penal Code – by force, by duress and by deception. My struggle to recover led me to research what actually constitutes rape and sexual assault across the US and in various places around the world.
I launched my efforts to conquer sexual assault by fighting for desperately needed laws on “consent.” In 2009, I began writing my memoir which chronicles portions of what happened to me, in “Carnal Abuse by Deceit.”
I released Your Consent – The Key to Conquering Sexual Assault, in 2018 as a blueprint for society and legislative efforts. This book was referred to as “The primer for defining consent,” by Indiana State Representative Sally Siegrist, and has received acclaim from high profile survivors such as Andrea Constand, the plaintiff in the Cosby trial, and Jessica Mann, the plaintiff in the Weinstein trial.
One of the proudest moments I’ve achieved since going public was hearing that a Federal Prosecutor cited this webpage in the indictment that lead to locking up a serial rapist with 30+ victims.
I’ve advocated for victims around the country and succeeded in helping them secure justice. I’m the recipient of a “Woman of Distinction” honor from the NY State Assembly, and a citation from the City Council of New York City.
I have been featured on Nightline, the CBS Evening News, BuzzFeed, Inside Edition, WPIX, The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Fox News and more. (See this link.) I’ve been quoted in several books on the subject of sexual assault and often interviewed on radio and podcasts.

I’m strong. I’m resilient. I don’t give up despite the odds….Afterall, I’m a sexual assault survivor!
