Two Organizations. One Vital Mission.

The Consent Awareness movement is advanced through two separate organizations, each serving a distinct purpose while working toward the same goal: a world where consent is clearly understood, respected, and protected.

Consent Awareness Network (CAN) Public Benefit Corporation (PBC)

The Consent Awareness Public Benefit Corporation leads legislative and public policy initiatives to establish clear, effective consent standards in law.

The PBC advocates for the adoption of a consent definition based on the consent principle of Freely Given, Knowledgeable, and Informed Agreement by a person with the capacity to reason (FGKIA). Through legislative outreach, policy development, coalition building, and public advocacy, the PBC works to strengthen legal protections and advance meaningful reform.

Because substantial legislative advocacy is central to this mission, these activities are conducted through the Public Benefit Corporation rather than the charitable organization.

Consent Awareness Philanthropy (CAP) (501(c)(3))

The Consent Awareness Philanthropy is a charitable organization dedicated to advancing consent education, supporting survivors in healing their bodies and minds, and connecting survivors with legal resources that can help them secure justice.

Why We Operate Separately

Federal law limits the amount of legislative advocacy that can be conducted by charitable 501(c)(3) organizations. To ensure that both missions can be pursued effectively and in compliance with applicable laws, legislative advocacy is conducted through the Public Benefit Corporation, while charitable, educational, and survivor-support activities are conducted through the Philanthropy.

Although the organizations collaborate toward a common vision, they maintain separate legal structures, governance, finances, and operations.

  • The Philanthropy advances consent education, helps survivors obtain justice, and supports the healing and ability for survivors to recover.

Together, CAN and CAP advance the mission of defining consent and creating a safer, more just society.
